Ok, Tropical Storm Isaac is not technically a hurricane yet. But he is scheduled to become a hurricane sometime Thursday when the wind speeds increase above 75 miles per hour and the storm strengthens over the Caribbean Sea. This is our first hurricane of the season and the only storm to give Haiti a good hit in over two years. We are thankful for the blessing of storm free seasons since the earthquake in January 2010.
So with the storm due to pass over us late Friday/early Saturday we are making preparations. Our home is relatively well protected from a direct hit by the mountains of the southern peninsula and the 2,500 foot mountains behind our house to the east. But we can still get strong winds and lots of rain. You might remember our wall coming down in 2008 after 24-hours of rain. The wall now has drainage holes in the bottom so we should be good. We are stocked up with food and water. We anticipate having electricity throughout and internet as well.
We will keep you updated on our own situation as well as that of the saints on Lagonav and in Port-au-Prince. We have a service scheduled for Sunday when we will receive new members and conducts a number of baptisms. Pray we can still hold services and make it down to Port-au-Prince. Lagonav could also receive a lot of rain so we will keep in contact with folks from the churches to monitor the situation and help as we are able.
