It's Been a While

While we have tried to active on Facebook and Twitter over the last month the blog has been relatively quiet.  This is not because life has been boring or unexciting.  Every day in Haiti brings with it not just new challenges but new people and experiences.  Life is Haiti is like riding the waves of the sea.  Sometimes we are on the crest and encouraged by the circumstances of life.  Other times we are in the trough and it is easy to become discouraged by the challenge of relationships and the work we are called to.

Today we had Menorce with us again helping with painting.  I am alway encouraged to have Menorace with us.  First of all he is a good worker.  Haiti tends to be a place where you have to keep a close eye when you have someone doing a job for you.  Menorce is different.  You give him the task and he keep at it until it is done.  And he even cleans up after himself.  He is also an interesting person to talk with.  He is a little bit older so he has lived through a lot of Haiti's ups and down over the last decades.  He remembers the good times and is sad for the bad times.

When I get discouraged by the challenges of ministry I am glad that Wednesday comes around.  The theology class held at the Port-au-Prince church is always interesting, challenging and gives me something to new to think about.  Since the start of our class on the Westminster Confession of Faith in September, we have consistently had 15 or so in the class.  They come with varied church and educational backgrounds but always with a willingness to learn.  This is very encouraging to both myself and Pastor Octavius as we seek to be a part of building the church in Haiti. This is our small part of making disciples of all nations (Matt. 28:19).
