Remember this guy? A few weeks ago I showed you a picture of a strange animal we were sure was a spider. It looked almost like a crab with eight legs.
Today Ethan found the name while reading through his book on Bugs and Spiders. It is called a kite spider and is from the genus Gasteracantha. They are sometimes known as Crablike Spiny Orbweavers. They weave small webs that are similar in design to the well known Orb Spider. Scientists are not sure why they have the spines but they likely make it hard for predators to eat! They live all over the world. Maybe you have one in your backyard?
