This was week we were privileged again to have members of the the family of Matthew Baugh. You will remember Matt was the OPC missionary killed in a motorcycle accident in May 2006 while working on the field in Haiti. His Mom, two brothers and a nephew were along to visit schools they help to support on the island of Lagonav. These four schools are located at churches we work with on the island.
So here we are loading up at the wharf down at Carries. Heather and the kids came along to feed us and keep things running while we were out at the schools. It was a lot of luggage because they were bringing New Testaments and supplies to the schools. Even our dog Thai came along. By now she should be getting frequent crossing miles.
The scenery is beautiful. The first day we drove into the interior of Lagonav to visit the schools at Lapye and Plenn Mapou. The drive is 3 hours. The clear blue skies, the green trees bely the dustiness of the road. We are in the middle of the dry season so we are thankful that there is not much traffic on the road. That way we don't have to drive through clouds of dust.
One of the exciting aspects of the trip was being able to distribute Bibles to each of the primary grade students. Why learn to read? So they can read the Bible for themselves. And now they each have a New Testament which is a new translation into Haitian Creole. Our prayer is that God would use this to draw these kids to himself and to raise up future leaders for the church.
Above are the kids at the two schools we visited the first day. As you look at each face, remember to pray for them. We had a chance to see school in progress and each of the schools did a short program - singing, reciting poems, saying thank you. A good first day.
On our drive home we encountered some UN troops also riding in pickup trucks on their way back to Ansagale like us. Our driver didn't want to pass them and then they broke down. There are on Lagonav verifying everything is ready for elections in April. There were troops from Brazil, France, Paraguay and Senegal. I joked with our driver that I had the better driver and the better truck, and probably paid less than they did too!
Day two was more of the same, but a little less traveling time. We were able to see school going on at Bwa Pen but arrived a little late at Gran Lagon. The kids were all smiles.

On our way home the second day we saw Noah's Ark again. Progress is being made. You might remember pics from about a month ago. They are building this boat on the salt flats a few hundred yards from the ocean. Last time only the keel had been laid. Now ribs are being laid as well. It will be a boat to carry cargo back and forth between Lagonav and the mainland.
Back to the mainland on Thursday. And here they are ready to make their way to Port-au-Prince and home. We are grateful for their support and visit. We pray that God would be glorified as we cooperate in educating the next generation of children on Lagonav in a way that would please our Lord.
