How many indeed! The answers is lots. I am grateful that I was able to begin the process of getting our Mule from Haiti customs today. And we did accomplish a lot though there is still lots to do. The Mule is off the Danica Sunbeam, container ship that brought it from Miami to Saint Marc.
After coming back from Lagonav on the flyboat yesterday morning it was off to Saint Marc. Thankfully God had previously provided good contacts in Saint Marc who were trustworthy. These folks were very kind in pointing me in the right direction. Dealing with customs is hard enough in Haiti – I didn’t need a con artist for a customs broker.
The first stop was SGM, a company who receives the paperwork from the ship. It took about 45 minutes for them to look through the manifest, find our paperwork and approve it for us. Cha-ching! $15US please.
Then it was off to the dock area to get the dossier for customs. Another long wait, confirm our identity, fill in the paperwork, all on an old fashioned typewriter of course. Cha-ching! $15US please.
Next step was to try and see if we could see the Mule. It is always hard to get a straight answer as to where it is located. Had they moved it to the security parking area? Was it off the ship. After two trips back and forth we got to see it. It was still on the wharf waiting to be sent off to the parking area. We are grateful that everything is present and accounted for.
Pray for us this week. We are preparing for vacation beginning next week. Lots to do on top of getting the Mule out of customs. Pray the price they want would be reasonable. Pray our agent would be able to move the process along. It is almost here!
