Solar Bread & Brownies

IMG_0239 Do you like brownies better or bread?  Whichever you prefer you can have them here in Haiti, even when the power is off and the tank of propane is gone.  With our solar oven all we need is a sunny day.  We have plenty here in Haiti.

We were very grateful to receive the gift of two types of solar ovens - one from a team from South Dakota and the other from Peter Fontana who works with a neighboring orphanage.  They both work great.  We have baked birthday cakes, made bread and are going to try cooking our rice and beans in one as well.

To make bread first we get out our solar bread recipe.

Then Heather mixes up the batter.  We also made brownies this morning.

The oven made it up over 300 degrees F, though it cooled slightly after I took the lid off to take the picture.

And here is the finished product in the metal pot we cooked it in.  Our visitor Dave Berry, from Providence OPC in Broomfield, CO attested to the great taste of the brownies.
