Celebrating a birthday

IMG_2813 Together again as a family after a few days, we celebrated Ben's birthday on Wednesday.  Ben welcomed his birthday bright and early, having to wake up at 4:30AM to catch the ferry back from Lagonav.  It was a quiet and calm passage.

The kids had been busy over the days previously working on cards.  Ben was glad to receive these wonderful expressions of love and care.

As is often the case when teams are here, there were errands to run in Port-au-Prince.  This time the whole family came along to join in the fun.  We spent some time at a materials store picking out tape, hammers and a float switch for our water tank.  After correcting some errors in the order, paying for the forgotten items and getting them double checked again we were off to the Hotel Montana.

Our friends Nicole and Georg are from Germany and we first met them while they were staying at Kaliko in February.  They are adopting a little Haitian boy named Petersen.  They had been reunited as a family a few days previously, waiting for the last of the paperwork before flying home as three for the first time.

We enjoyed a wonderful lunch and very fine views from the hotel that overlooks the city of Port-au-Prince.  It is amazing how easy it is to forget the poverty and plight of the people from so high up.

Nicole and Georg were waiting that afternoon for Petersen's passport from Haiti immigration so he could fly to the DR to get the visa for Germany.  We were able to pray and were very excited to see God answer to quickly.  It arrived at 3PM while the kids were swimming and we were chatting.  We say goodbye to our friends but are thankful for the technology like Skype that lets us stay in touch.

The birthday ended with cake at home and an early night to bed.  Thank you Lord for another wonderful year!
