Food distribution on Lagonav

The food has finally made it to Lagonav.  Shortly after the earthquake the Committee on Diaconal Ministries from our denomination decided it would be good to try and get some food aid to the island of Lagonav.  The idea was to test the system to see how an effort like this might work.

Well, the food made it there just in time for the 6-month anniversary of the earthquake.  The food was still welcome as people continue to struggle to find jobs, ways to make money and with their already planted crops.  The extended time just shows how challenging the logistics us such an effort are – dealing with corrupt customs, poor communication and challenge of transport by container, truck and boat.  In the end it made it as the pictures below show.  The photos were taken by Dumerle Saint Jean on Lagonav.
