Teams comes to minister to the children of Lagonav and us as missionaries. The team washes dishes, instructs in the Bible, paints walls and plays games with the kids. It is all work particularly as they travel at least an hour each way to the churches every day. Sometimes though we forget one of the greatest ways we communicate the love of Christ to the children – by bringing them joy and allowing them to express it.
Playing Bef, Bef, Bourik (our Haitian version of Duck, Duck, Goose) may not seem very spiritual. But it takes just one sight of the joyful faces to realize this too is important. Many of these children have hard lives. We come and give them a moment of joy in the midst of an otherwise difficult day. And at places like Doglas the adults who come to observe get a change to laugh as well.
Our team is now safely back on the mainland after traveling back on the boat Tuesday. It was another great crossing. In God’s providence, the engine waited until we had come alongside the wharf on the mainland to start smoking. We shut down the engine but the guys were not sure whether they would make it back to Lagonav that night. We are glad to have made it back. Now the team is doing some work around the Kaliko house, we will eat out at lunch, spend the afternoon on the beach and they travel home tomorrow.
