Reformed Youth Camp '11

Our family just returned from two days at camp. A great time was by all and the kids are now asking about going to camp next year. We will see. We traveled just over an hour from our home in Ellenton, FL to the Lakewood Retreat Center in the woods north of Tampa. The location was lovely and the facilities great.

We had been invited to camp to speak to the teenagers. The Hopps just spent one night though the camp runs through Saturday of this week. There were kids coming from churches as faraway as Pineville, Louisiana. It is exciting to see these young people learn about Jesus and have fun doing it.

Heather and Ben talked with both high school groups about "The Life and Calling of a Missionary." We enjoyed interacting with these young people and talking a little about how we got to Haiti and what life is like as a missionary. It was encouraging for us to reflect on how far God has brought us.

Not only were there talks and singing but also lots of games. Our older three participated in Capture the Flag out in the hot sun. They also had a blast on the 100 foot slip 'n' slide in the late evening. With lots of soap and water on the slide they were able to go a long ways. The camp was well organized and the other campers were very gracious by including our younger kids in the activities.

Reformed Youth Camp, organized by a group of very energetic folks from the Presbytery of the South, will definitely be on our list of summer things to do once our kids get older. Our kids had never been to cap before so it was wonderful them to meet some new people and enjoy the outdoors. They were tired at the end of the day but would say they had a blast!
