The Southern Most Point and Back Again

The family has just arrived back from our 5-day journey to the southern most point in the continental United States, only 90 miles from Cuba. And we visited three Orthodox Presbyterian Churches in the process.

Day One

We traveled to Miami driving past Fort Myers, Naples and through Alligator Alley (no alligators seen on this leg of the journey). The kids enjoyed a late afternoon swim at the Howard Johnson in Hialeah.

Day Two

Easter Sunday was spent worshipping first with the saints at Sharon OPC in the suburbs of Miami. It was wonderful to worship with the saints, celebrate the Lord's Supper and tell them something of what God is doing in Haiti. We enjoyed a wonderful brunch and then feeding the ducks back at Pastor Jeff's condo/office. The evening found us at Lake Worth, FL, with Ben preaching and giving a presentation on the Haiti work at Fellowship OPC. Turns out we only missed meeting Pastor Henry by one year at Westminster Seminary in Philadelphia.

Day Three

We continued our journey farther south by taking US-1 to Key West. We traveled passed the many Keys, the beautiful blue ocean and the Seven Mile Bridge. Everyone enjoyed a swim in the ocean at Bahia Honda State Park. Lots of fun in the sand, swimming in the water and soaking up the sun. Temps in the high 80's. We spent the evening at Mallory Square on the ocean in Key West. Pastor Bill from Keys OPC was presenting the gospel message down at the square so we joined him and his family.

Day Four

The day begin with a late breakfast and tour of Key West. We took our picture at the southern most point in the continental US. Only 90 miles to Cuba and 600 miles to Haiti. We enjoyed a walk along the Harbor Boardwalk, seeing pelicans fighting over fish head, huge Tarpons in the marina waters and some famous Key West Key Lime pie. We spent the evening presenting the Haiti work to folks at Keys OPC. Wonderful fellowship!

Day Five

Returned home after putting 1001 miles on the van. Eleven alligators counted sunning themselves on the return trip through Alligator Alley. We are thankful for continued traveling mercies. The kids were glad to be home and to have the chance to ride their bikes again!
