We have arrived safely on the island of La Gonave. Had a good sleep last night partly thanks to the air conditioning. Made it feel pretty humid this morning but it was sunny and beautiful. Our breakfast at Kaliko was banana, watermelon and mango, an egg omelette and great Haitian coffee. can't be beat as far as I am concerned.
We got our ride up to Carrieres where the ferry goes across to the island. Unlike our trip here in November, the ferry was running so no fly-boat ride. If you have not heard the story ask me about it sometimes. We have been thankful for the good weather God has afforded us so far. Makes travel easier and more comfortable. The water was fairly calm.
The group is staying at Fifi's guest house here in Anse-a-Galets, the largest town on the island. She had lunch for us when we arrived, rice with a goat stew. Good and tasty! Rob, Ben and Andrew Baugh along with myself went down to the beach for a swim. The water must be 80F at least. This is our only light travel day so we had a chance to relax. We also went to visit the Wesleyan Hospital and a poor house. A couple churches built a building for them to live and people provide donations of food. For some reason I have been struck more with the poverty here this trip. We are thankful to be able to provide the help we can but the needs sometimes seem endless. It is wonderful that we serve Jesus who calls himself the Bread of Life.
Thanks again for your prayers. Everyone is much encouraged, getting along well and thankful for God's grace. Tomorrow we worship at Douglase in the morning and Gran Lagon in the afternoon. Pray that we might be encourage the saints and be encouraged!
