The apostle Paul, in the 12th chapter of his letter to the church in Rome reminds us of this truth. As believers in Jesus Christ we are called to "rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep." (Romans 12:15) This is a very high calling. It can be hard to rejoice alongside someone who has blessed with something we aspire to - whether a particular talent, accomplishment or relationship. It can also be difficult to mourn with those who mourn. Suffering makes us uncomfortable, it causes us to want to look the other way. We sometimes see it as a sign of weakness to weep. But we must do as the Scriptures command us.
The pictures of the devastation in Haiti are not meant to sensationalize the suffering of so many. Pictures can only tell part of the story - behind every picture of a destroyed house is a person made in the image of God, a family. I took these pictures so that you might be better able to weep with those who weep.
Watch the slide show below and then go pray. Pray for the relief efforts and that the hope of the gospel of Jesus Christ would permeate this dark land. And give thanks to God for the blessings you have in living in a country with a developed infrastructure. Who thought we should be thankful for the storm drains under our city streets and the men and women waiting in hospitals and fire stations to save us from distress. God is good.

Thank you so much for taking the time to take pictures and upload them and write your stories. It brings to my heart and mind a much more realistic perspective on what is happening there than merely a statement, "100 dead in Haiti." Thanks again. Loriel
