The compilation of audio clips below is from our recent trip to the Monwi market. Monwi (or Mont Rouis in French) is a small town about 20 minutes north of our home. It has become our favorite place to shop the market. Market day in Monwi is Tuesday and there are also lots of vendors on Saturday.
You will hear the sounds of motorcycles and trucks and goats, snatches of conversations, haggling over prices and the general hustle and bustle of the marketplace. And it really is that noisy. A great place to learn Kreyol, bargain a little and get some good fresh produce. We often buy bread, bananas, avocados, carrots, potatoes, sweet oranges and other fruits. We go often enough that we are not quite the attraction as blan that we once were. Enjoy!
