Every Lord's Day we are somewhere else to worship. Sometimes I am on Lagonav worshipping at one of our churches and preaching there. When on the mainland I get to worship with my family, sometimes at the Port-au-Prince church plant and other times at the PCA affiliated works along the coast.
Once in a while I take a break from preaching myself to hear the Haitian brothers preach. It is always good spiritual food and a good learning experience for me. This past Sunday we decided to go to the church in Foveau (just outside Cabaret) and worship there. We arrived to see that a big celebration was being prepared for. It was the 10th anniversary fet of the church in Foveau.
The kids sat through a record setting service for them. It was 3 1/2 hours of singing, praying, listening and preaching. It was a fitting tribute to God's work in Foveau. To think the church started from nothing 10 years ago and to see the many people giving praise to God for his faithfulness was very moving.
And those ten years we not without challenges. In his sermon from Psalm 126, Pastor Charles Amicy told about how the man he helped to pastor the church turned against him, even hiring a vodou priest to put a curse on him. The vodou priest is dead and the former pastor lying paralyzed following a stroke. God has continued to grow the church.
The pictures below give a taste of the service. There were 4 singing groups including some of the little children from the Foveau church. Following the service food was on tap for everyone. It was a wonderful Haitian meal provided by the local church. Thanks and may God continue to bless the ministry in the 10 years to come! (Sorry about the quality of the photos, all I had was my camera phone)
