Team Haiti 2010: Plenn Mapou

IMG_4810 The last two days have been spent up in the mountains in a valley called Plenn Mapou.  It is a 2 1/4 hour drive from Ansagale.  The weather has been unusually mild so far with some wonderful breezes and an overcast sky.  It does not get better than this in the summer here.

Rochel at Plenn Mapou Rochel is the leader of the church.  Both the school and church meet in a small covered area next to his house.  It makes a fine place to hold the Vacation Bible School.  Many of the 55-60 kids at the VBS are from the church.  Others come from the surrounding area.  We are very thankful for the opportunity to teach these little ones the truth of the gospel and show them a little of the love of Jesus.

IMG_4787 We are definitely out in the country.  As the team teaches and the kids sing, the animals move under foot.  The local dog is looking for the crumbs of the peanut butter and bread snack.  When I try to give him a swift kick he thinks I am playing.  The young cat gets a handout of bread.  But he has to defend it from the chickens.  He does until a mother hen bigger than he drives the cat away.

IMG_4805 The girls on the team always enjoy the babies.  This little guy is Rochel’s youngest.  Even Isaiah got a chance to hold him.  They are not sure about each other.  Wonder what they are thinking.  It is encouraging to think that though these little ones can’t understand yet, they are the future students.  And a little love and tenderness goes a long way in communicating the love Jesus has for these little ones.

IMG_4769 The work goes on at the guest house as well.  The teams are always willing to work hard despite a long day of driving and teaching.  We are trying to get some more coats of paint on the inside of the guest house.  Broc helped install an attic fan we are hoping will help evacuate some of the warm air in the house.  The welder has come in handy so many times.
