Team Haiti 2010

Saturday I arrived back in Haiti to prepare for Team Haiti 2010 coming from southern California.  This is year number three for the teams coming form churches all over the Presbytery of Southern California.  Even though it is always hot in June and July we have a great time.

After a successful arrival including the luggage we came to the island of Lagonav today.  Things are a little different this year as we came over on the Wesleyan boat.  We drove to their private wharf and waited.  The boat was having a little trouble with the transmission running hot so they pulled up a little late.  We loaded up and prepared for the 1.5 hour crossing to Ansagale.

But it took a little longer than expected.  Several times we had to stop for them to work on the transmission and top up the fluids.  Brandon and Isaiah played chess.  We all enjoyed the view.  Broc played the guitar that was really hard to hear over the engine noise.

Once at the house everyone got to work cleaning.  When we arrive at the guest house it is always a little like arriving at your cottage in the spring.  The water system needs a little priming, the generator needs to be hooked up and windows opened to air the place out.  Some of the guys got straight to work install towel racks, putting up an attic fan and cleaning up the tool room.

Wednesday and Thursday we are off to Plenn Mapou for the start of our Vacation Bible Schools (VBS).  Please pray for safety on the road, strength for the team and good rest during the hot and humid nights.  More on each of the churches and the VBS programs in the days to come.

Also, for those of you who are interested, I preached at the Port-au-Prince church plant on Sunday.  The new tent is now up and ready for services thanks to Randy Lodder and his teams.  It will give more room for services and other events.  The breezes blowing through the property make the temps bearable though you almost need sunglasses because of the bright white tent.
