Just A Week In

IMG_5958 Time really does fly.  Looking back I can’t believe we have been back in Haiti for a week and a half already.  It is has been so busy that you just don’t have time to savor the days I suppose.  But we are trying to be better, by God’s grace, at living each day as its own.  “Don’t worry about tomorrow, each day has enough trouble of its own.”

The house is beginning to come together.  We can’t really talk about Haiti without talking about rats.  While they tended to stay up in the rafters when we were regularly living in the house, the extended time away brought them down into the cupboards and pantries.  Heather has been busy cleaning out cupboards, washing dishes, and throwing out things the rats have soiled.  Not very fun work.

IMG_5952 Esther continues to thrive.  She doesn’t seem to mind the heat too much, for which we are thankful.  Another blessing has been the conferences going on down at the Kaliko Beach Club – it basically means we have had 24-hour electricity for most of the time we have been back.  The days continue hot and a brief spell in the air conditioning perks us up.  Esther is growing and is beginning to have a real personality.  The most rewarding thing is to hear her laugh – either in her sleep or while awake.

Ethan, Emma and Elijah are enjoying the yard.  They spend a part of every day out riding bikes, climbing trees or coming up with a game to play.  Ethan and Elijah do what boys do – play fight with swords made out of long seed pods.  Emma is still loving to read and horses are the subject of choice when it comes to books.  She also is a great help in taking care of Esther.

IMG_5942 Lots of “random” events to report too.  We worshipped in our new long-term temporary facility in Port-au-Prince yesterday.  While driving home with the family last week we saw a truck with two huge stones chained on to the back bed.  Didn’t look too safe to us and we quickly passed them as they must have been doing 60 miles an hour.  Ben heads to Orlando for a few days for a meeting of presbytery.  He will also preach and present the work in a couple Florida churches over the weekend.  Thanks for continuing to pray.
