It has only been 5 days since we arrived home but we are learning to deal with the heat. Though the leaves and temperatures are likely falling for most of you, in Haiti it remains hot and humid. It will still be a couple months before me move into the slightly lower “wintertime” temperatures. So during the daytime heat all of us, including Esther and the dog, relax in front of the fans. Esther herself is doing fine and though she sweats like the rest of us doesn’t complain much about it.
One way to take the heat is to get in a pool. We enjoyed our Canadian Thanksgiving at the compound of Samaritan’s Purse about 35 minutes south of us. They hosted nearly 100 people, most of them Canadians working in Haiti either short or long-term. We had turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes gravy and a variety of desserts. The kids spent time in the big pool they have. Ethan especially enjoyed it because they have a deep end so he could practice his diving.
Earlier in the day we had another service at our Port-au-Prince church plant. We met once again at Randy and Karen Lodder’s house with about 30 in attendance. It was a wonderful showcase of the unity among Reformed brethren. We are from the OPC, Pastor Octavius Delfils is a missionary from the Presbyterian Church in American (PCA) and we had a brother present with another team preach from the Heritage Reformed Church in Canada. Lots of Haitian brothers and sisters too. We are excited that this coming Sunday will be our first service at the new “permanent” location near the airport.
