Many of you have been praying for our family and the people of Haiti. Thank you for this faithful labor on behalf of us and the nation of Haiti. As you may have heard on the news, it appears the cholera outbreak has been contained, at least for the time being. The number of deaths has stabilized and it seems from all accounts that the outbreak did begin in the Artibonite valley and was carried to the other areas where cases were seen. There has been no outbreak in the tent cities in Port-au-Prince.
The president of Haiti came on the television the other day and demonstrated how to wash hands. While at a meeting in Port-au-Prince yesterday we heard the trucks with loudspeakers educating people about proper hygiene and food preparation. By God’s grace, there is no widespread panic or fear. Do keep praying as this does not mean cholera is gone and it could appear again at any time.
Please also pray for myself and Douglas Clawson, Associate General Secretary for the Committee on Foreign Missions, as we travel to Lagonav tomorrow. We will be spending 4 days on the island holding training seminars for the church leaders and visiting the churches. We give thanks for this opportunity to invest in the lives of these men. Pray for good health and strength.
