UPDATE: Recent Haiti news

Once again it seems all the news coming out of Haiti is bad news.  Over the last week it has been hard to keep pace with all the up and downs of the news coverage.  The elections didn’t go so well and people are simmering.  The cholera epidemic continues to rage.  It sometimes seems that Haiti just moves from one disaster to another.

Amid all the difficulties we are doing fine here at Kaliko.  We are safe from cholera as we treat our own water and wash our hands.  We are staying closer to home as sporadic demonstrations pop up in various places.  On our way back from Port-au-Prince on Tuesday we nearly got caught in a demonstration.  Just before the town of Cabaret we encountered a truck nearly blocking the highway.  Then right around the corner two more.  After some lively discussions with the drivers we were able to squeeze by.  At the town square a crowd was gathering.  We heard later the road was blocked and the crowd threw stones and burned tires.

Never a dull moment.  Thanks for continuing to pray.  The election results have still not been published but pray things will stay calm when they are.  Pray for those suffering from cholera.  And pray that the church would continue to grow and be a witness to people who need the saving gospel of Jesus Christ.

One final note: hurricane season is now officially over.  We are very thankful that Haiti suffered very little this year.  It is definitely an answer to prayer in light of the fact that it was actually a very active season in the Atlantic basin.  This link takes you to the hurricane track map for all the storms this past year.  Just Tomas hit Haiti.  We are thankful!
