Furlough So Far

Back home again.  It is always good to return home to my family after time on the road.  I do enjoy traveling, meeting new people, enjoying the hospitality of saints in various churches and talking about Haiti.  Family camps like the recent one in Oregon are an especially good time because I get to talk about Haiti in more detail.  I forget sometimes how many stories I have and how many people I know in that land.  It is great to be able to bring others along on the journey of a missionary family.

Travels during our furlough have taken us far and wide.  We are very thankful that our children travel well.  We have a long history of trips with our older three but we were not sure how Esther would fare.  She is getting active and prefers to have space to walk around, but flying puts her mercifully to sleep.  We have some longer trips in the van coming up but think she will do great.  Our other three keep busy reading, listening to books on CD, playing games and just talking.  We are thankful that we can spend this time together as a family and make the memories.

Though we visit churches and friends here in the United States and Canada, our thoughts are never far from Haiti.  It is hurricane season so the rains are coming.  No major hurricanes have hit Haiti yet.  We pray it stays that way.  Living in Florida we are not far out off the path of hurricane hits either, so it is another reminder to pray for our brothers and sisters.  We will not return until next March, but we hear good reports from Associate General Secretary for the Committee on Foreign Missions of the OPC who is in Haiti right now.

We do enjoy keeping you updated on our visits to the churches also.  Though we have not taken as much time for frequent e-mails and blog entries, we have tried to use quicker more timely methods to talk about events and places we see.  Twitter and Facebook may not be great for extended treatises on the life of the missionary but it is a fun way to follow us around.  Alaska, California, Florida or Oregon, wherever we go you can follow us.  Check in with us and pray as you are able.  Thanks.
