Two years ago at 4:53PM a devastating earthquake struck Haiti. Many died under the rubble of a city full of poorly built concrete structures. But many were saved through the miraculous intervention of God. We have been privileged to hear those stories as well as share in the grief of those who lost loved ones. We continue to walk beside a people who still feel the effects of the earthquake today.
Continue to pray for the nation of Haiti. The recovery is slow as it is following all disasters in Haiti. We are grateful to be a part of building the church of Jesus Christ, the only place where people can hear of the eternal hope we have in Christ. Broken buildings, corrupt governments and even death itself are not the end of the story.
At the death of Jesus Christ on the cross, in what seemed like the darkest hour of human history, an earthquake shook the land. But rather than cause more death and destruction, it was a foreshadowing of the resurrection of Jesus three day later. The Gospel writer Matthew tells us, "the earth shook, and the rocks were split. The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised." (Matthew 27:51-52) The shaking of the earthquake was a witness to the resurrection. Out of death came life. We have hope. The people of Haiti have hope.
