We are home after another long day on the road. We visited two other churches today. The roads were not only bumpy in spots, but also very steep and in places there way mud. Up in the mountains of La Gonave they had rain early this morning. Because of cell phones we found this out before our expected departure at 7AM and held off for an hour so things could dry out. Amazing!
The church at Lapierre is the highest point on La Gonave at 777m (2400 ft). There was a great crowd gathered to meet us. We sang, gave greetings and had a short devotional. The picture shows the whole group gathered in front of their building up on the mountain. We are very thankful for the finished road that Matt Baugh helped coordinate. He was able to get the funds together so the local men could build the road by hand. Very smooth even after the rain.
We also visited a second church at Plen Mapou down in the valley near Lapierre. They have a school at the church with over 80 students. The small church structure was overflowing with children.
Thanks again for praying for safety. So pray for the Baugh family as they make their way to Port-au-Prince on Wednesday and then home to the US Thursday. Douglas Clawson and I will remain on La Gonave to spend a couple days training the pastors and leaders of the churches. Pray for us as we teach and the men as they learn. Pray also for my backside that it would recover after two days on a narrow wooden bench in the back of the pickup truck. The sacrifices of missionary life : )
