1st Presbyterian Church of Port-au-Prince

Today was Sunday so the question was not whether we would go to church but where I would be preaching.  Port-au-Prince was the answer today.  Some of you may not be aware that we have a joint church plant in Haiti’s capital city of Port-au-Prince – so we though we would update you on 1st Presbyterian Church of Port-au-Prince.

The church is now nearly a year old and is a joint effort between our Orthodox Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Church of America and the Canadian Reformed Churches.  We are very excited that we can collaborate in this way to bring the reformed faith to the city.

The church has been worshipping in a new facility on the same school compound for 3 weeks now.  It is bright, has pretty good ventilation but is pretty noisy.  The road is right outside the wall.  It looks beautiful in orange and green on the outside too.  During the week the space is used for classrooms at Adoration Christian School, adminstrated by our friends Randy & Karen Lodder in Haiti with the CDIA under the Canadian Reformed Churches.

Leon Amicy and Octavius Delfils, both working the Mission Presbyterienne d’Haiti (MPH) do the share of the preaching and pastoring at the church.  And they do a great job.  We are very thankful for their efforts we only get to worship at the church about once a month.

This morning we had about 45 people in attendance.  That is pretty typical but the church is growing.  The fellowship is sweet and besides the Haitian regulars there are a number of missionaries who attend from time to time.  Each week the gospel is preached and songs sung to the glory of God.  We are thankful that this is part of the growing work here in Haiti.  Keep praying that God would preserve and grow the church to his glory!
