A Couple Busy Days

Douglas Clawson and I arrived back from the island safely on early Saturday morning.  The boat ride was a little rough and we were thankful to have time for a shower to clean off the salt spray.  After a quick breakfast it was off to a meeting in Cabaret.

For a number of months we have been in the planning stages of forming a presbytery here in Haiti.  We want to bring together all the churches that are reformed and presbytery under the umbrella of the regional church.  We had leaders from Lagonav, the mainland including Port-au-Prince and Gonaives.  We have a draft of a Book of Church Order which is a manual on how the presbytery will run.  Our hope and desire is to have a final draft soon and have the first meeting of the presbytery shortly in the new year.

Please continue to pray for the missionaries who are spearheading this effort.  We desire to work together because we confess the same faith and have the same desire to work together to see a presbyterian and reformed church planted in Haiti.  The men in the picture are Esaie Etienne (PCA missionary working in Gonaives), Charles Amicy (PCA missionary working from Saint Marc south to Port-au-Prince), me, Octavius Delfils (PCA missionary working with Charles).

Emma has been excited about her horse for a few months now.  Today we got to choose one.  We were out for dinner and met the guy in charge of the horses Claudel.  He took us up above Route Nationale #1 up into the mountains.  The land up there is farmland and the 60 or so horses are loose on the land.  Heather and the kids decided on “Star” or “Cetwa” in Kreyol.  He will be ready to ride on about 3 months.

Yesterday was also an exciting day – except that both myself and Douglas had come down with some kind of stomach virus.  We were due in Port-au-Prince for a baptism service but Douglas was in no shape to travel.  By God’s grace I was able to perform the baptism of Maia Joy, little girl of some good friends.  It was a delight to have many visitors at the Port-au-Prince church plant and to bring Randy and Karen in as the first members of the church.  God is good.
