This phrase is not a bad way of describing life in Haiti. And how our first couple days of work have gone in Port-au-Prince. But that is not to say it has gone badly. We have been busy even though the plans have changed a few times. It can sometimes feel like it is one step forward and two steps back. But all in God’s good plan and timing.
One of the big jobs we wanted to accomplish at the site was to put in a septic tank and toilets. The hole had been dug so our guys got to work putting in block and anchoring it into the retaining wall. The others guys were working hard doing some finishing work as well as beginning the electrical for the church and school.
Fast forward to day two. We arrive at the worksite with Max there to greet us. Good news he says. The good news is we now have a new swimming pool at the property. The heavy rains of the night before had dumped about 4 feet of water in the bottom of the hole. It was a mess. The septic would wait.
The team of guys from Illinois, Florida, California, Pennsylvania and Colorado have been great. Most of them have even said it is not as hot as they expected. We have enjoyed listening to some sermons on the drives to Port in the morning. There has been good fellowship and lots of laughs around the table. Some good very serious discussions also. It has been good for me to reflect on the last three years in Haiti as I answer their questions.
We finish our work at the Port-au-Prince church site tomorrow. Then it will be off to really build a septic tank at Pastor Leon’s house. You will remember his house as the one our team worked at in March. Lord willing we will finish the tank and plumb it in during the last two days. Keep praying for traveling mercies and strength for the labors.
Finally a big Happy Birthday to Maia Lodder. The daughter of our good friends Randy and Karen turns 1 today! She came to visit the job site and enjoyed all the sights and sounds. Happy Birthday Maia!
