Getting here is not always an easy process. But on day two it is time to make our way to the island of Lagonav. We drive up to the Wesleyan Wharf to wait for the arrival of the boat. Today they had problems with the engine and sat bobbing out in the channel for about an hour. Thankfully the good cell service here in Haiti allowed them to give us a heads up. Instead of cooling our heels at the dock the team did some jobs around the house at Kaliko. But soon it is time to say goodbye to my family.
Today the waters are calm. The water is a very deep blue color with the channel being nearly 3000’ deep in some places. We see some other boats as we cross. Today it was really busy. We passed within a mile of two large container ships. The Lagonav ferry passed us just as we pulled in behind the reef off the island. And the sailboats are pretty ubiquitous.
In all the trip takes us about 2 hours. A small problem with the engine of the Briz sou Lanme a (Breezy Sea) means we are slow for the last couple miles. The Wesleyan folks are very gracious and load up a couple of their trucks to get us to the guest house. We have arrived.
