Lagonav Guest House

Many of you have asked how the guest house on Lagonav is coming along.  As you have read from the Team Haiti blog postings, the guest is well used.  Teams are able to eat, sleep and relax at the house while they travel out to the churches to do VBS.

Below are some pictures of the current state of the guest house.  Keep praying for the paperwork related to the registration of the OPC mission in Haiti.  Once that is done we will transfer the land title and then can finish up some major tasks like plastering and painting.  In the meantime we are thankful for the place God has provided to host teams on the island.

As the truck drives up to the guest house this is your first view.  The wall is as high as it looks – 10 feet high in some places.  The house takes up most the property.  The front door and gate are visible in this picture.

Looking down the hill from the other side you can see the roof with rebar sticking up.  All houses in Haiti are made with the option of putting on a second story, thus the rebar.  The guest house is on a hill on the northern outskirts of Ansagale.  Thankfully there is fairly often a breeze blowing down the hill.  It doesn’t keep things cool in the hot months of July and August though!

From the roof of the guest house we can see back to the mainland.  Our place at Kaliko is in the center of the picture between the two cell towers.  The large cement roof is our water collection system.  It runs to a pipe near the black tank and down into the cistern.  Then we pump is back up into our black water tank for distribution to the showers and sinks.

This photo shows the guest house facing the street.  The front door is on the left with another entrance from the balcony.  The little gallery can be a nice place to sit in the morning and in the late afternoon just before the sun sets.  The last Team Haiti leveled off the piles of gravel you see in front and moved them to the back.

This is our backyard.  In the foreground is our cistern that hold over 20,000 gallons of water when full.  The ladder gives us access to the roof with some spectacular views of the ocean.  The main bedrooms face the back.  We even have a clothesline set up in the back corner if people do laundry.  Much of the plastering has been done on the inside of the house but the outside is still to be done.

Here is an inside view of the main room in the center of the house.  The guys bathroom is at center in the back, with the bedrooms to the right and left.  The kitchen is off to the left.  As you can see this is one of the unfinished rooms that still needs to be plastered and have the floor put in.

This final photo shows a finished bathroom.  The walls have been plastered, painted and all he fixtures put in.  The toilets flush, the sink works and the shower is on the left side.  Sorry, no hot water!
