My first two week stint is finished. And there is still lots of work to be done. I was struck again that from the air the damage does not look too bad in the city. But you know there are many damaged houses because of the blue tarps. As you fly out of Port-au-Prince the tarps are very visible in many yards. It is under these flimsy tarps and tents that many are sleeping.
After the work team left I spent Sunday with Scott Bisson worshipping at two Cabaret area churches. I had the privilege of preaching Foveau. At the beginning of the service Pastor Michel asked how many people were in church for the first time. There were 12. Then he asked how many had not yet trusted in Christ as their Savior. There were 7. He encouraged them to listen carefully and respond to the gospel call as God worked in their hearts. It was very exciting that at the end of the service we were able to pray with two people who were converted through the preaching of the Word. An older man named Theodore and a young woman both indicated they had trusted in Christ. Pray for them. It is encouraging that they are attending a church where the gospel is preached and they can grow in grace.
Monday we made our way to the airport. It was a real zoo. There were at least three flights departing very close together. It took about an hour to get through security and the check-in line. As you can see from the picture the Port-au-Prince airport is still very busy with commercial and military flights.
By God’s grace I arrived safely home last night to be reunited with my family. It was fun to come into Tampa and have Heather and the kids meet me. Emma had e-mail me to watch out because they might bowl me over with their hugs. And they nearly did!
