POS Team: Vacation Bible School

Happy New Year 2010!  We are celebrating New Year’s on Lagonav this year again.  The team finished two days at the church in Bwa Pen and today took the trucks to Nan Kafe.  The roads were really busy with traffic, folks traveling to the various villages to celebrate New Year’s with their relatives.  The market in Nan Kafe was crowded with people buying food and other supplies for their celebrations.  I don’t think I have ever seen that many people in the town before.

So what do we do each day during our time of Vacation Bible School?  Check out the pictures below.

Here is the church at Nan Kafe.  Sometimes we are located in a building and sometimes at churches with tarps and palm frond walls.

Our Bible instruction based on the Children’s Catechism translated into Creole.  Here team member John teaches on the account of Daniel in the Lion’s Den with Max interpreting for him.

The kids always enjoy doing the crafts because they do not get much opportunity in school or Sunday school.  Today they colored tambourines that also doubled as musical accompaniment for the singing.

Kids need energy to sing, learn and play.  Here is a picture of the feeding line – first wash hands with hand sanitizer, then get the bread with peanut butter and then a small sack of treated water.

What would a VBS be without games.  Some of the games we play include tug-of-war, relay races, duck-duck-goose and the one illustrated, Four Corners.  The boy in the foreground is counting and the other are waiting for him to start.

Our kids love to sing.  Here you can see them singing the Haitian Creole version of “Deep and Wide.”
