Today was our day of rest. It was well earned by the whole team. After a week of travel by airplane, boat and truck everyone was tired. The team has slept well despite the heat and humidity. They even experience a real Haiti thunderstorm two night ago.
After breakfast this morning we headed out to the church at Doglas. The ride took us back up the mountain. Thankfully church doesn’t start without us as we had a couple problems with tires along the way. Since no trucks had used that particular road in a few days there were many acacia branches on the road. They have big thorns and the bald tires are easily punctured. After a quick change we arrived about 30 minutes late.
The church service was not that different than you might have experienced this Lord’s Day. The big difference was that it was mostly done in Haitian Creole. after introductions the service began with prayer and a Scripture reading. We had the offering, pastoral prayer. Team Haiti did some special music with guitar accompaniment. The hymn is also found in the hymnbook used by the churches here in Haiti:

Pastor Jesse Pirschel from the OPC church in Temecula, CA preached the sermon at the service. It was a wonderful reminder of the grace of God from Luke 7:37-50. Then it was time to come home. Heather had prepared a nice meal that we shared with our interpreters and Dumerle’s family. Our day has been a Sabbath rest.
