Team Haiti 2009.1: Preaching and Painting

It was our first two full days on Lagonav.  Time for the Vacation Bible School to begin.  That meant lots of driving.  On our travels to Plenn Mapou, up in the central highlands of the island, we drove a total of 11 hours.  But because the roads are so poor we covered only 56 miles.  Our average speed was just over 5 miles per hour.

The team didn’t complain.  And they did a great job bringing the truths of the gospel to the young children, mostly aged 5 to 10.  We had about 45 kids the first day and 60 the second day.

Besides instruction in the Children’s Catechism and Bible stories to illustrate, the kids also enjoyed games and a snack.  At left they are eating bread and peanut butter.  With a full stomach they were really quite attentive to the teaching.

The journey back and forth was grueling but there were also some great views.  Our truck drivers do a great job of negotiating the rough roads of Lagonav.

The other part of our days was taken up with eating, relaxing and working around the house.  One of the big jobs we tackled was painting the inside of the guest house.  Broc brought a paint sprayer to make the job faster.

The spray gun was not working well at first.  Broc checked everything and it kept stalling out.  Finally we decided to get help at through the Wesleyans here on Lagonav.  They gave us some paint rollers and pans.  Broc spent the day painting and at the end of the day a missing washer showed up.  Now everything works great.  We will show you some pictures of the completed rooms in subsequent posts.
