Men at Work

IMG_6189 We have had a busy time with a team arriving Saturday.  Yet I still wanted to send along a brief update of the work.  We began the week worshipping with the folks at the Port-au-Prince church plant.  One of the team members, the Rev. Jonathan Holst preached from John 3:16 to a crowd of about 70 people.  We are very thankful for the numerical increase the Lord is giving.  We look forward to adding members after a new members class that started Sunday.

IMG_6205 Our afternoon was spent on the beach.  The work team of 5 from Connecticut and southern New York got to experience the warm, clear waters before their week of work.  There were still some remnants of waves from the recent hurricane.  The beach at the Kaliko Beach Club is a real mess – very sad.

IMG_6230 Monday the team and I headed back to Port-au-Prince to work at Adoration Christian School, also the site of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Delmas.  They team is working on benches for the church and putting up some temporary shelter for the security guys on the roof of the school.  The first big job was getting the sections of the pre-fabricated houses up onto the roof.  They were heavy and required some muscle.  No one suffered any long term injuries thankfully.

IMG_6243 By the end of the second day the walls were up and most of the tin on one little house.  We were still waiting for the legs of the benches that are being constructed out of metal by a welder.  We do have the wood and they will be assembled, Lord willing, the end of our time in Port-au-Prince tomorrow.  From there the team will move to the Kaliko house work site for a number of jobs.

And finally a few other pictures from the last week and our travels in and around Port-au-Prince.

A rather amusing attempt by the Haitian police to boost their image – pulling weeds?
