It seems that Haiti is making the news a little too often lately. This year has seen three big stories - the earthquake, the cholera outbreak and now hurricane Tomas. I am grateful to report that the storm is now past and we are all fine. We had about 4 inches (100 mm) of rain in the last 24 hours and did have to mop out our screened-in porch last night at about 9:00PM. Other than a few small branches down our place did well.
The southern peninsula of Haiti was the worst hit with widespread flooding. Pray for the people as they recover from this further blow. The churches on Lagonav did receive rain and some wind, but everyone is doing as well as can be expected. Port-au-Prince was also spared widespread destruction and we will hold our regular Sunday services there tomorrow.
There are always matters to pray for. Here are some items you can bring before our God related to both the country of Haiti and our family:
· pray that the flooding will not trigger a wider cholera outbreak.
· ask God to give people patience as they rebuild their houses and lives after flooding in the south of Haiti.
· pray that the government would be wise as they make decisions about the upcoming elections due on November 28 and that stability would continue.
· give God thanks for Esther's continued growth and the good health of the entire Hopp family.
· pray for preparations for various teams we are hosting and the ongoing work of teaching and rehabilitation.
· pray for the kids as they learn Creole with our language helper Pierre.
· ask God to bless the preaching of the gospel particularly in reference to the rebuilding work at the Port-au-Prince church plant.
