UPDATE: Tropical Storm Tomas

Haiti is back in the news because of the imminent arrival of a tropical storm to our shores.  The tropical depression is currently south of Haiti over the Caribbean Sea.  While it was originally supposed to strengthen to hurricane strength by the time is made landfall, the prediction is that it will be a tropical storm instead.  This is a great mercy.  We have not had a major storm hit Haiti since 2008.

The tent cities in Port-au-Prince are particularly vulnerable to the rain and winds.  Though the winds might not be as strong, the rain could be devastating as it will create mudslides and inundate areas.  Current predictions from the National Hurricane Center are for 5-10 inches of rain over much of Haiti with isolated amounts approaching 15 inches.  We are grateful for our home and its location where we have survived storms before.  We are located on a gently sloping hill and now have drainage holes in our wall.  Thanks for praying, we will keep you updated as we move toward Friday.
