The Hopp family wants to thank you again for your prayers. We are grateful to know that so many lift us up before the throne of grace as we labor on behalf of the church of Christ here in Haiti. Many of you will know of the recent troubles that have affected us because of the sin of Charles Amicy. We are saddened to report that Charles Amicy, our friend and partner in ministry since 2007, has been deposed from the ministry by his presbytery, excommunicated from the fellowship of the church because of ongoing refusal to submit to those in authority over him.
With a recent World Magazine article highlighting the events of the past few months, we felt it important to communicate how these events have affected us and our ministry. Sadly it was Charles who decided he could no longer work with us because of our stand alongside the PCA (Presbyterian Church in America), a sister denomination. We are grateful that we can continue to work alongside Pastor Octavius Delfils and MTW (Mission to the World) missionary Esaie Etienne. While the troubles have greatly affected the Port-au-Prince church, we labor on. We are thankful that we can continue the work of training leaders on Lagonav. Please continue to pray.
In other news, the first hurricane of the season is now bearing down on Haiti. Right now it looks like it will hit the southern peninsula of Haiti on Friday. Douglas Clawson and I were nearly stuck on Lagonav because the maritime authority is already trying to stop marine traffic. We got out on the only flyboat this morning. One of the engines died about 10 minutes out so the trip took a bit longer than usual. Always an adventure.
