Time for another trip to Lagonav. This time I am going over for a meeting with our groups of leaders and to do two days of training on the subject of worship. This time I have two of my best partners in the ministry here. On the right is Douglas Clawson from the Orthodox Presbyterian Church head office in Philadelphia. He has been to Haiti over 20 times. On the left is Charles Amicy who works with the Presbyterian Mission in Haiti under the Presbyterian Church of America. Charles is a good friend and colleague in the work here in Haiti.
We had a long meeting with the Lagonav Diaconal Committee this afternoon to discuss various issues. Today we spent the day teaching at a local school that served as our classroom. We had a total of about 20 men who come for the teaching. They always have good questions – the question time always wakes people up after lunch and a hot afternoon.
The photos below are an interesting sight from the wharf over on the island. As our ferry was docking we saw two cargo sailboats in the process of unloading their cargo. They had come over from Port-au-Prince literally loaded to the gills. The one boat only had about 2 feet of freeboard. One was loaded with sacks of treated water, diesel fuel and all kinds of miscellaneous items.
The second boat was loaded with lumber for construction here on the island. Much of the wood is used for forming concrete. Everything in Haiti is built out of block and cement. Someone on the wharf didn’t like me taking the picture. But it was on the camera so too late!
We travel back to the mainland early on Saturday morning. Pray for our presbytery planning meeting that morning down in Cabaret. This is an important step in the life of the Haitian Presbyterian church. Also pray for Heather and the kids who are at home on the mainland.
