Team Haiti 2009.2: Day to Day

We are 3/4 the way through our time on Lagonav.  I thought you might be interested to know what the days have been like as we spend our time at the churches and guest house here on the island of Lagonav.

Everyone rises between 5:30-6:00AM.  The sun is up by then and we begin to prepare breakfast.  Heather is usually the first up and puts on the coffee on.  The table then set for oatmeal, pancakes or eggs.  After breakfast we have a short devotional.

Just after 7:00AM the trucks arrive to transport us to the churches.  The rides are between one and two hours.  Our longest ride so far was for church at Nan Kafe.  The team spends the time singing, playing memory games or just chatting.

By 9:00AM it is time to start the Vacation Bible School.  By the time the teaching, games, crafts and singing are done it is nearly noon.  We say our goodbyes and make the return trip to the guest house.  Each pickup carries about 10 people which includes the drivers, their helpers, our interpreters and the team.  On some days the Hopp kids come along as well.

Once back at the guest house we have lunch and relax for a little bit.  This is the hottest part of the day.  We sweat.  The team has been great about being up for doing some jobs around the guest house.  Painting some rooms, moving gravel, washing windows, sweeping.  We keep busy most afternoons with work.  By 5:00PM it begins to cool down slightly.  Time for supper.

After supper it is time to hit the showers.  We measure how hot the day is by how many showers you need to take.  There have been several two shower days!  Unlike Team Haiti in July we have not had any rain to cool things down.  At 7:30PM we gather for a time of worship – singing, praying and sharing our highs and lows of the day.  It is a great time of fellowship.  At 9:00PM it is lights out.  Time to rest in preparation for another day.

One quick prayer request to pass along.  Please pray for Heather who hurt her back on Saturday.  She got a good shock as she sat down and had real difficulty moving for a couple days.  She is on the mend but still needs your prayers.
