Hanging on

Our family is thankful that we are more than hanging on.  By God’s grace, we continue to thrive and be used in God’s service here in Haiti.

But as a recent article in the Miami Herald indicates, many Haitians are just barely hanging on.  The articles seems to move between wild optimism and dour predictions.  The reality is somewhere in between.  But as the first tropical storm of the season hits us tomorrow, things have not improved much over last year.

Reconstruction has been very slow.  Infrastructure programs continue to waste money and show little progress.  In our area the only thing that seems to be moving along is the new road – but that is being built by a Dominican company with lots of outside dollars.  People are eating but many are just scratching by.  The new school year is upon us but many are trying to scrape up the money to send their kids.

Keep praying for the nation of Haiti, particularly as you hear news of the storms.  We are safe here in our house at Kaliko.  The likely-hood of any direct hit or severe flooding is very minimal.  Pray that God would send a spiritual awakening to this country – it needs it.
