From many nations to Haiti

We know that God is calling to himself a people "from every tribe and tongue and people and nation." And he has called us to bring the gospel to the nation of Haiti. What we never expected was to find folks from many nations here in Haiti.

Yesterday we were in Port-au-Prince to take care of some paperwork for the vehicle. It was a long morning of tracking down a DHL letter that had arrived. The government offices close at noon on Fridays, so we didn't get accomplished what we had desired. But we did promise the kids a lunch at Epi D'Or, a restaurant up on Delmas catering to ex-pats and other relatively wealth folks. Good bread.

There we ran into an RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) corporal who was finishing his tour in Haiti. He was very kind and even gave the kids pins from the RCMP. He has lived in Ottawa like us and had a home in an area of Toronto where Heather grew up. Eating lunch with him were UN men from Nepal and the Philippines. Some UN troops from Peru gave up their table for us. And we also saw some guys later from Brazil and Sri Lanka in the Megamart.

Though the majority of people in Haiti are the descendants of black African slaves, and we are called to help their churches grow and thrive, you never know who you might end up being a witness to!
