In the Savior's footsteps

"And they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them." Mark 10:32
"But he was in the stern, asleep on a cushion." Mark 4:38

As we traveled to Saint Marc (Senmak in Kreyol) a couple scenes from Jesus life came to my mind. One was him traveling along the dusty roads of Palestine, going from place to place in order to preach the good news. Haiti is pretty far removed from the Holy Land, but the roads are dry and dusty and traveling can be a dirty, hot business. As we made the 30 mile journey to Sanmak we saw people walking along the highway. The roads are terrible so driving is almost as exhausting as walking would be.

The other scene was Jesus asleep in the back of the boat after a long day of ministry. Again, my days are not as full as Jesus', but the heat and the travel do combine to make one tired. I am thankful to have the opportunity to preach the gospel here each Sunday, even if I don't speak the language well yet. We got up at 6AM, had breakfast and got ready to travel. We made the 1 1/2 hour trip to the church in Sanmak, up the coast from Kaliko and also on the water. We sang, prayed and I preach from 1 John 1:8-10. Then we greeted the saints and made our way home again on the roads that are hard to describe. I was exhausted by the time we got home. Maybe a good Sunday for an afternoon nap.
