It was a good and eventful day, today on T+6 in Haiti. We had breakfast, Cheerios with milk make from whole cream powder as usual. This is one of those things we are thankful for. The milk is really not that bad, and they do have varieties of cereal here in Haiti. Corn Flakes, Rice Crispies, even saw Froot Loops at the Caribbean Market the other day. Not that our kids will get any : )Our morning consisted of breakfast, do the dishes, family worship. Then it was off on a walk down to the Kaliko Beach Club. We walked with Riske, the plumber who worked on our toilets and showers. He was a great helper in learning some Kreyol phrases. We got to the beach club, met some folks from Virginia here for a missions conference, talked briefly with some Brazilian UN peacekeepers there on their day off, the kids dipped in the ocean, Ben checked e-mail, and then the hot walk home.
Ben had an interesting time on an outing to get water and a few groceries. We get our purified water in 5 gallon jugs. Ben drove off for the 15 minute drive, realized he forgot his wallet, came back and then off again. Negotiated some prices for melons and meliton, which are something like cucumber in taste and texture. Stopped at some melon stands near our homes to get one more watermelon, which are in season. After negotiating a price of 30 Haitian dollars Ben pulled out his coins. Thinking the large silver coins were 50 gourdes coins the women laughed and said, that's not enough, those are 50 centimes pieces (1/2 a gourde). Humbling, as every day it. I can say we are enjoying it a little more!
